Backlash Music is a Berlin based music label and home for artistic visions, experiments and nishes valuing contrariety and ambivalence, curiosity and conceptual depth. Through our productions we build a network of highly dedicated artists, who share our love for context and development and for the never ending process of making sounding art. We are there to support them, both in production and in marketing, to remain true to their artistic visions and always seek to encourage discourse and exchange among them.
Backlash Music was founded in 2018 by producer Johann Günther and pianist Mathias Halvorsen. Its initial development in the years 2018-20 was supported by the fellowship program #bebeethoven, a project of PODIUM Esslingen funded by the Federal Cultural Foundation.
Starting in 2022 Backlash Music is entering a distribution partnership with British label Orchid Classics. Orchid Classics was founded in 2005 by violinist Matthew Trusler, with the goal of providing artists with the creative freedom and artistic control to produce their very best work. The label, still under Trusler’s artistic direction, has since established itself as a significant creative force, and now works with many of today’s major artists. The company won a Latin Grammy Award with Gabriela Montero, one of the most successful recording artists of her generation, in her first release with an independent label.
